About Me

Welcome to my design portfolio. I am an architectural graduate from Brisbane Australia. I am passionate about good design, in that it not only serves a function but that it serves the community and protects the environment. I believe as a designer I have a responsibility to the generations of people that will inherit the building, the land and the city, that it becomes a positive contribution for the foreseeable future and beyond.

Urban Farming in Developed Nations

Report: Barriers to Urban Farming in Developed Nations
View the complete report here.

In the first semester of 2010 we were assigned a research project as a preparation for our masters. We were required to research a topic under the theme of City Living and as part of the research had to conduct a number of interviews. I choose to research the topic of urban farming in developed nations. I went beyond what was expected and contacted professionals directly related to the topic including an urban farmer, a council employee and a sustainability engineer. It was necessary to organise mutual meeting times. After organising time and place the interview was conducted over the course of an hour with pre-prepared questions. This process required flexibility and negotiation. The interviews were important in developing communication skills and extracting information. The interview process required flexibility, asking questions that were appropriate to the conversation and that could extract a greater detail of information. Post the interviews it was necessary to transcribe the interview into a written record. I combined the interviews with a questionnaire I also conducted and was able to come to some strong conclusions and uncover unique findings. As a result of my work I was awarded the highest mark and this was just rewards for taking on the assignment seriously with a strong endeavour to use my findings to assist myself and others within the profession in the future. I was proud of the work I did and the important information I have now made available.
